Café ODYSSEY: Pop-up in June!

The pop-up coffee cart is coming back in June!

This time we are going to invite all of you to explore the diverse cultural identity in Peckham. Come and meet the local initiatives, artists, creatives, independent shops, social enterprises and more! Don't miss your coffee this time and we're expecting more to see in the exhibition in June! Café ODYSSEY is a critical intervention that takes the form of a pop-up coffee shop. This is a café with a difference. The coffee is free, however, coffee drinkers get a specially designed receipt, a map, which shows different trails, shops and organisations that all, in one way or another, contribute to the contested narrative of gentrification in the area.

The goal of the project is to highlight local identity and celebrate its rich diversity. People who take the trail can discover hidden gems, local places, people, businesses and organisations which shape Peckham’s cultural identity. The project aims to promote social cohesion and place attachment to counteract the alienating effects of gentrification. There are different points along the trails where participants can encounter and build relationships with the local communities, social enterprises, galleries, artists and residents.

The project is a collaboration with Pempeople, Peckham Vision and The Peckham Society.

This event is is part of the London Festival of Architecture 2018.

The London Festival of Architecture is the world’s largest annual architecture festival, with a mission to support architectural talent in London, enthuse and engage with the public, and find new ways to look at the city. From 1-30 June 2018 it will be exploring the theme ‘identity’ through a rich programme of events across London that celebrates London as a global architectural hub, and promotes positive change to its public realm. The programme is delivered by a diverse mix of architecture and design practices and practitioners, cultural and academic institutions, artists and many others.
